Tigers dominate in FIRST WIN!
10th April 2008

Since the University of Memphis Tiger Rugby squad has reformed the Tigers have had nothing but dissappointing losses, forfeit wins, and ties.

That is until their final match of their Spring 2008 season.

The Tigers played host to a brand new, and very very physical, UT Martin squad.

The Tigers scored early an often en route to a 34-0 victory over the Skyhawks of UT Martin.

Tiger players Lawrence Davis (no stranger to the try-zone), Adam Montgomery, BB Somers (freshman), Alan Mimms, Daniel Knop (also no stranger to the try-zone), Landon Sutton, and Neilson Ferry all dotted down tries for the Tigers on the day.

The UT Martin Skyhawks threatened at times to score, but couldn't manage to string enough phases together against a stingy Tiger defense that dominated the breakdown. Play was often very rough, very physical, and at times very illegal on the part of the Skyhawks, but the rule breaking was certainly excused on the count of inexperience by almost their entire squad.

The Tigers move into the offseason on their first ever win, and hope to show strong in matches this summer competing on the sevens pitch.

Tigers Conclude Spring Matrix Season
18th March 2008

The Tigers played a tenacious spring matrix season in 2008. With strong showings against Vanderbilt and Ole Miss the Tigers fall short, but just barely, of getting their first win in conference play in what is now their second season of existence.

The Tigers best game of the Spring season came when they played Ole Miss at home, the game was a true nail-biter and saw the Tigers come within a conversion of drawing the game, and a penalty of winning. The Final score was 17-15 in favor of the Rebels, and was 15-10 up until the last minutes of the game when Ole Miss scored and converted to steal the win away from the determined Tiger team.

After the conclusion of the Spring matrix the Tigers have decided to schedule an upstart team out of UT-Martin on March 29th in Memphis to conclude their spring season. The Skyhawks of UT-Martin have done a fine job in recruiting and have an experienced squad with many of their players contributing previous rugby experience to the squad. But despite the adversity the Tigers plan to come out of their final game of the spring season with a win.

Vandy Cancels - Tigers call up ASU
12th October 2007

For the second week in a row the Tigers had to make arrangements to get a match, Vanderbilt failed to secure field space for the match and so the Tigers travelled to Arkansas State to take on the Indians B side on Saturday.

The Indians B side proved to be as strong as any in the nation the week prior after defeating the heralded B's of Clemson in Birmingham. The Tigers had a true test ahead of them.

The Indians opened up the scoring seeminly easily in the first few minutes of the match. (Try ASU 0-5). Shortly after their first try they showed their extreme athletecism and scored again (Try ASU 0-12). The Tigers then came together and refused the Indians in for another try during the first half.

The Second half showed some more of the same greatness from the Indians, it was apparent the Indians were deep and had players that used to frequent their A side on the B team. The Indians ran to a 27-0 lead, but the Tigers showed ferocity under the gun and came back with two tries from Lawrence Davis and a Penalty Try from the effort of Clifton Wheeler. The final score was 12-27.

The Tigers were expected to play MTSU at home this week but received a call from the Blue Raiders cancelling the third match in three weeks.

The Tigers will look to pick up a match somewhere or otherwise deal with two consecutive off weeks before meeting ASU's A side in Jonesboro on the 27th of October.
